bombs bursting in air....

you can feel the heat building
there is a slight haze in the air already
the sky is blue
and cloudless
but the sun is hot
if you stand in the shade it's bearable
if you like the heat
I don't...
the noises in the woods tell you
summer is here
the tree frogs and the crickets
and all those other bugs that
sing the summer songs
there are kids swimming in the lake
around the corner from us
out of sight

and by the sounds of it they are happy
the pungent smell of
the b-b-q starter fills the air
as the grills are started so that the
burgers and dogs will cook fast later on
when the kids have had enough
and the dads want a bite after a
wicked game of
horse shoes
the clanging and the thuds of the shoes
as they hit the spike or the ground
just audible above the chatting and laughing
the voices of the mothers calling to the children
to be careful or come back closer to the shore
the constant vigil that mothers do without thinking
that keeps everyone safe and secure
and no one even knows it
the smell of baked beans and salads of all kinds start to mix and mingle and spread around
boxes and baskets
towels and blankets
and toys for the kids
round tubes
long squiggly noodles
that bounce up and down like gigantic worms
as they are carried proudly by the smallest of the bunch
buckets and spades
or shovels as they call them here
but I'm not sure there is any sand to make those castles with
maybe mud pies will do
along with all the holiday food
that needs to be eaten fast
as the heat continues to grow and the baking sun makes one sleepy
but a bite of cold fresh melon can help cool you down
and it's a sure sign that summer is here

................................................

(think they should change the name of this yarn  to wattymelon)

( a good place to put the bread...I don't eat dogs, but hubs does so along with burgers and salad I'm all done with the cooking!!!)

we went to the store
to get the cat some food
as we always do
if the cat has food
we don't go
if she's eaten it all again
we go
who rules the roost
???
:)

anyway
while we were checking out
the cashier was telling me that
the resident bag stuffer so that there isn't a breath of air left to put another thing
 and I
 are her favourite customers
because the husband loads the bags
I organise the way they are to be loaded
and I never complain or yell at her
when she sticks those day glo orange stickers on things she thinks won't fit in the bags
she chatted away as we all did our thing
and at the very moment we had finished
she was told to take her break
now
so she handed the till off to the next checker
after telling the young man not to put cold things in with non cold things
especially in this heat and she knew that he didn't care one hoot but that's what he should do and keep the customers
happy happy happy
collected her stuff from the drawer
walked around to where husband was still packing
and with a big hug
and a big smile
she wrapped her arms around husbands neck
and planted a big one on his cheek
said
thanks Hon for always helping
and walked away
with a sincere wish for a great
Fourth
LOVE it!!!!!!
